Communications Intern

About the role

The Communications Intern will support UNDP Sierra Leone’s communications unit in adapting the global UNDP communication strategy to the local context. Working under the Communications Specialist, the intern will help raise the visibility of development programmes and promote the Sustainable Development Goals across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing the country communications strategy, annual plan and performance indicators.
• Create and edit content for stories, op‑eds, talking points, press releases and social‑media posts.
• Synthesise information from programme teams to produce briefs, presentations, decks and toolkits.
• Maintain communication dashboards, meeting calendars and other unit documentation.
• Support the preparation of pitches, reports and other communication materials as needed.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or final‑year student in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
• Strong writing and editing skills in English.
• Interest in international development and UNDP’s values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team.

Required skills

• Excellent written communication.
• Basic knowledge of social‑media platforms and content creation.
