Country Financial Controller

About the role

As a member of Concern Worldwide’s Sierra Leone Country Management Team, the Country Financial Controller leads the finance function, ensuring robust internal controls, effective treasury management, and accurate reporting on all grants.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve financial systems, internal controls, ledger, cashbooks and bank reconciliations to protect assets and minimise fraud risk.
• Lead the preparation, consolidation and monitoring of country and donor budgets, produce monthly management accounts and financial reports for HQ.
• Oversee donor reporting, ensure compliance with donor requirements and manage the donor financial management system.
• Provide leadership to the in‑country finance team, develop staff capacity and ensure performance reviews are completed.
• Conduct field visits to assess and strengthen financial processes and support partner accounting assessments.

Required profile

• Professional accountancy qualification (CPA, ACA, ACCA) with at least three years post‑qualification experience in a similar international NGO.
• Proven experience managing large multi‑donor programmes and developing staff capacity.
• Knowledge of development issues, macro‑economic or fiscal policy, and ability to work under pressure.
• Strong communication, negotiation and cross‑cultural awareness.
