About the role
UNICEF is seeking an international consultant to lead a needs assessment on how digital tools, including artificial intelligence, can enhance the uptake of newly developed teaching and learning materials for pre‑primary and primary teachers in Sierra Leone. The assessment will shape future actions such as tool development, training programmes, or targeted investments.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment on digital tool usage among teachers and head teachers.
- Analyse how AI and other digital solutions can support the new pedagogical approach.
- Prepare evidence‑based recommendations for next steps, including potential tool development, training, or pilot investments.
- Collaborate with government officials, NGOs, and other stakeholders to gather data and validate findings.
- Produce a final report summarising findings, options analysis, and actionable recommendations.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Education, Education Technology, Pedagogy, Economics of Education, Public Policy, ICT, or related fields.
- Minimum five years of experience in blended learning, education technology, and teacher capacity development.
- Strong understanding of early‑grade teaching methods, inclusive education, and teacher training.
- Demonstrated experience designing digital tools for teacher capacity building and delivering training workshops.
- Previous work experience in African education contexts is highly valued.
Required skills
- Knowledge of current education technology trends and best practices.
- Analytical skills for needs assessment and options analysis.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
