Programme Intern – International Development

About the role

The Programme Intern will join Sightsavers’ Sierra Leone Country Office in Freetown for a 15‑month placement. Working closely with programme staff, the intern will gain hands‑on experience in international development, disability inclusion and project coordination while supporting daily administrative tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with routine programme administration, including filing, data entry and document management.
• Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes and follow up on action points.
• Support monitoring and reporting by organising data, preparing simple dashboards and updating trackers.
• Facilitate communication with partners, donors and community stakeholders.
• Help organise learning activities, workshops and logistical arrangements for field visits.
• Contribute to the preparation of project reports and learning notes under supervision.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or early‑career professional (0‑2 years experience) with a genuine interest in development, disability inclusion, public health or education.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn, ask questions and incorporate feedback.
• Ability to work respectfully with colleagues, partners and local communities.

Required skills

• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
