Project Officer – Sierra Leone Coastal Resilience

About the role

Save the Children is recruiting a Project Officer to lead community‑level implementation of the Sierra Leone Coastal Resilience Project, a $27 million, five‑year initiative funded by the Green Climate Fund.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct community assessments (HEA, market, climate health) and report findings to guide interventions.
• Develop community profiles and recommend programming for beneficiary households.
• Ensure transparent, gender‑equitable selection of project beneficiaries.
• Establish and support community adaptation groups, mangrove stewardship committees, livelihoods circles and WASH maintenance committees.
• Deliver training on climate‑hazard planning, mangrove conservation and livelihood skills, with focus on women and youth.
• Distribute livelihood materials and facilitate construction of fish‑smoking ovens and solar dryers.
• Work with teachers and pupils to build school‑based climate resilience and gender‑based clubs.
• Lead monitoring, data collection and reporting in collaboration with the MEAL team.

Required profile

• Willingness to travel frequently and stay overnight in remote riverine communities.
• Ability to adapt working hours and duties during major humanitarian emergencies.
