Resident Coordinator – United Nations (Sierra Leone)

About the role

The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the United Nations’ highest‑ranking representative in Sierra Leone, leading the UN Country Team and ensuring coordinated support for the country’s sustainable development agenda and the 2030 Agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the UN at senior government levels and engage with civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners, academia and the private sector to promote the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Lead the development, monitoring and reporting of the UN Cooperation Framework in close consultation with the Government of Sierra Leone.
• Coordinate system‑wide UN support to the Government, ensuring alignment with the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and the 2030 Agenda.
• Oversee the UN Country Team’s implementation of programmes, fostering collaboration across UN agencies, funds and programmes.
• Report annually to the host Government and to the UN Secretary‑General on system‑wide performance and outcomes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior development coordination or diplomatic roles within multilateral environments.
• Deep understanding of the UN development system, the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
• Proven ability to work with government officials, NGOs, donors and private sector stakeholders.
• Strong leadership and negotiation skills, with a track record of managing large, diverse teams.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UN Cooperation Frameworks and international development standards.
• Experience in policy coordination, programme monitoring and results‑based reporting.
