Deputy Manager Environmental Compliance

About the role

Rainforest Builder is seeking a Deputy Manager to lead environmental compliance across its forest restoration projects in Sierra Leone. The role combines technical oversight of monitoring programmes with senior‑level engagement of auditors, regulators and investors.

Key responsibilities

• Manage formal audit cycles (1st, 2nd and 3rd party) and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Prepare and submit detailed environmental monitoring reports covering waste, water quality, soil health and biodiversity.
• Ensure compliance with international standards such as FSC, PEFC and IFC Performance Standards, as well as Sierra Leone’s EPA regulations.
• Coordinate field visits, oversee data collection, and maintain evidence files for auditors and donors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Law, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in environmental compliance or management, preferably in forestry or natural‑resource sectors.
• Proven experience with ISO 14001 EMS implementation or auditing.
• Strong report‑writing ability and confidence in senior‑level stakeholder engagement.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to remote project sites.

Required skills

• MS Office proficiency.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001, FSC, PEFC and IFC Performance Standards.
• Familiarity with EPA SL regulations and Sierra Leone’s environmental legislative framework.
• Experience with environmental monitoring (waste management, water quality, soil health, biodiversity).
• Use of compliance or environmental data‑management software.
