Food Systems Action Development Expert

About the role

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in partnership with UNICEF, WFP and WHO, is seeking a Food Systems Action Development Expert to support the preparation of a National Food Systems Action Plan for Sierra Leone. Working under the FAO Representative and the Assistant FAOR, the incumbent will provide technical and analytical assistance to align the plan with national development frameworks and UN priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct desk reviews of existing food systems studies, national policies, strategies, and relevant programme reports.
• Compile and summarise analytical findings on food systems constraints, opportunities, investment priorities and policy alignment.
• Prepare technical materials and background documents for stakeholder consultations organized by FAO and government counterparts.
• Assist in documenting stakeholder inputs, consultation summaries, meeting notes and analytical reports.
• Support the compilation and organisation of data on food production, processing, distribution, consumption, nutrition‑sensitive agriculture and market systems.
• Contribute analytical inputs to identify food systems priorities and challenges for the Action Plan.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in agriculture, nutrition, food systems, development studies or a related field.
• Experience conducting food systems assessments, policy reviews and analytical work in a development context.
• Proven ability to work under supervision, coordinate with national technical coordinators and multiple UN agencies.
