Honeybee Production Expert

About the role

The Honeybee Production Expert will provide technical and operational support for apiculture activities within FAO’s Joint United Nations Nutrition Programme in Sierra Leone. Working under the supervision of the FAO Representative and Assistant FAOR, the incumbent will assist government counterparts and implementing partners to strengthen honey production as a climate‑resilient livelihood.

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation of technical training modules on beekeeping techniques, hive construction with local materials, honey harvesting, storage, and hygiene practices.
• Assist in formatting training manuals and extension materials for field use.
• Participate in delivery of capacity‑building sessions, including demonstrations of hive establishment, colony management, and honey harvesting.
• Provide on‑site technical assistance to beneficiaries during field‑based training and monitor beekeeping units established under the programme.
• Document field observations, technical challenges, attendance records, and compile technical and field information for reporting.
• Contribute technical inputs to value‑chain development activities related to apiculture.

Required profile

• Willingness to work under close supervision of FAO technical teams.
• Ability to collaborate with national technical coordinators, lead technical officers, implementing partners, and field teams.
• Not required to represent FAO independently or make institutional decisions.
