Internal Control & Compliance Officer

About the role

The Internal Control & Compliance Officer will support the Internal Controls and Compliance Manager in ensuring that Save the Children Sierra Leone adheres to all internal policies, donor requirements and local regulations. Working primarily from the Freetown office and field locations, the role involves reviewing financial and operational processes, investigating irregularities and strengthening governance frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the manager in evaluating the effectiveness of governance, risk management and control processes across the country office and field sites.
• Review, document and assess financial and operational controls for programmes, grants and administrative activities.
• Conduct regular spot‑tests and audits of donor‑funded transactions, supply‑chain, HR and program operations.
• Investigate allegations of fraud, corruption or misconduct, gather evidence and report findings in line with Save the Children standards.
• Analyse financial statements, reports and programme data to identify gaps in compliance and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain safeguarding level 3 compliance, ensuring appropriate vetting and protection of children’s data.

Required profile

• Experience working with internal control, compliance or audit functions in an international development or humanitarian context.
• Familiarity with donor regulations, grant management and local statutory requirements.
• Ability to collaborate with finance, program, HR and supply‑chain teams and build a network of key contacts.
• Willingness to travel to field offices and adapt working hours during emergencies.
