About the role
The Laboratory Technician supports patient care by performing diagnostic tests in biochemistry, haematology, and microbiology. The role involves specimen handling, analytical testing, equipment operation, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Receive, label, and process clinical specimens according to SOPs.
- Perform biochemical, haematological, and microbiological tests such as CBC, ESR, liver and kidney function panels, bacterial cultures, Gram stains, and sensitivity testing.
- Operate automated analyzers and manual testing methods.
- Conduct daily quality control, participate in proficiency testing, and calibrate equipment.
- Record and report results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and notify clinicians of critical values.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and document activities.
- Follow biosafety, infection‑prevention, and chemical‑safety procedures.
- Collaborate with lab staff, clinicians, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow.
Required profile
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- Certified Biomedical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent certification.
- Prior experience in a diagnostic laboratory is preferred.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Experience operating automated analyzers and manual testing methods.
- Strong technical skills in quality control (QC) and proficiency testing (PT/EQA).
