National Consultant – Specialist Gender Equality Profiling

About the role
UN Women is seeking a National Consultant to lead the development of a Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP) for Sierra Leone. The consultant will assess the current gender equality landscape, identify gaps and challenges, and provide evidence‑based recommendations to support national and UN‑wide programming.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of gender equality across political participation, economic environment, education, civic participation, social protection, healthcare and human security.
- Analyse gender disparities in social and economic rights, cultural and political rights, and identify root causes affecting vulnerable groups such as women with disabilities, rural women, single mothers and survivors of violence.
- Identify data and research gaps, especially statistical data needs, and compile raw data for each thematic area.
- Produce a detailed Country Gender Equality Profile report with findings, analysis and actionable recommendations.
- Support UN Women Sierra Leone in evidence‑driven advocacy and programming based on the profile.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in gender studies, development studies, sociology, public policy or a related field.
- Extensive experience conducting gender analysis and producing country‑level gender equality assessments.
- Strong understanding of international gender frameworks (SDGs, Beijing Platform, CEDAW, MAPUTO Protocol, Africa’s Agenda 2063).
- Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including government, civil society and development partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
