Nurse Mentor for Surgical Capacity Building

About the role

Mercy Ships is seeking an experienced Nurse Mentor to lead nursing mentoring projects in surgical wards and operating rooms at a partner hospital in Sierra Leone. The role combines mentorship, training, and quality‑improvement activities to strengthen the local surgical system.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate and maintain communication between partner hospitals, Mercy Ships departments and the Country Engagement Team.
• Design, deliver and evaluate nursing education, simulation and on‑ship skills‑sharing programmes aligned with local needs.
• Collaborate with hospital leaders to implement sustainable quality‑improvement projects and policy changes.
• Document project processes, maintain records, and prepare internal and final reports for ETA and International Programs.
• Support Mercy Ships events, host business guests and adapt to temporary reassignment across departments as needed.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with an active licence in the home country and a nursing degree (BScN or higher).
• Minimum 3 years of recent peri‑operative or operating‑room nursing experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work in resource‑limited, multicultural settings and to lead diverse teams.
• Fluent English; French at B1 level (B2 preferred) and a valid driver’s licence with International Driving Permit preferred.
