Pediatric Emergency Nurse Specialist

About the role

The Pediatric Emergency Nurse Specialist will strengthen pediatric emergency and critical care services at Koidu Government Hospital. This role focuses on clinical leadership, bedside mentoring, education and service development rather than routine ward duties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert pediatric emergency nursing care for critically ill children and support nurses in assessment, stabilization, triage and emergency management.
• Lead bedside teaching, clinical coaching, and multidisciplinary ward rounds, promoting adherence to national and international pediatric emergency standards.
• Participate in mortality and morbidity reviews, clinical audits and quality‑improvement initiatives, and contribute to protocol development.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing with current registration.
• Either a postgraduate specialist qualification plus 5 years post‑registration experience (including 2 years in pediatric emergency/critical care) or 10 years post‑registration experience (including 5 years in pediatric emergency/critical care).
• Demonstrated experience in assessment, stabilization and management of critically ill pediatric patients, bedside mentorship, and clinical leadership.

Required skills

• Pediatric emergency nursing expertise.
• Advanced life support certifications (PALS, BLS) and ability to deliver simulation‑based training.
• Competence in developing teaching materials, competency assessment tools and supporting continuing professional development.
