Security Officer – Port Terminal

About the role

A leading port operator in Freetown, Sierra Leone, with a 100% right to operate a container terminal and a government equity stake, is hiring a permanent Security Officer. The post supports the implementation and monitoring of security policies and procedures in port and terminal operations, safeguarding personnel, cargo, equipment and company assets in line with maritime security regulations, the ISPS Code and company policy.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce security policies, conduct regular patrols and inspections of gates, yards, warehouses and restricted areas, and watch the movement of people, vehicles, visitors and cargo.
• Ensure compliance with access control, the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP) and the ISPS Code, and monitor CCTV surveillance.
• Carry out security risk assessments, investigate incidents such as theft and unauthorized access, write incident reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with security audits and inspections, keep security records and incident registers, and prepare periodic security reports.
• Monitor the performance of security personnel, coordinate with internal departments and contracted security providers, and support security training, drills and emergency response exercises.
• Maintain security records in the Document Management System, keep confidential sensitive information, and liaise with port authorities and security agencies when authorised.

Required profile

• Diploma or bachelor's degree in security management, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Risk Management or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
• Good knowledge of port and maritime security operations, strong observation and analytical skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, respond to emergencies, and show integrity and confidentiality.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and security monitoring systems.
• Good report-writing and administrative skills.
