Project Lead & Sustainable Finance Specialist

About the role

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking a Project Lead and Sustainable Finance Specialist to strengthen biodiversity finance solutions within its Global Policy Network. The role will support the design, implementation and scaling of finance mechanisms that close biodiversity finance gaps and align with the Montreal‑Kunming Global Biodiversity Framework.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of Biodiversity Finance Plans for partner countries, ensuring alignment with SDG and Paris Agreement objectives.
• Coordinate with UNDP’s Nature, Climate Change, Energy, and Waste (NCE&W) Hubs to integrate nature‑based solutions into financing strategies.
• Provide technical guidance on biodiversity finance tools, including the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BioFIN) methodologies.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing across the Global Policy Network and external stakeholders.
• Monitor and report on the impact of finance interventions against agreed targets.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in finance, environmental economics, sustainable development or a related field.
• Proven experience in designing and managing finance solutions for biodiversity or climate projects.
• Strong understanding of international biodiversity frameworks and financing mechanisms.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with ability to work across UN agencies and external partners.

Required skills

• Knowledge of biodiversity finance tools and the BioFIN platform.
• Familiarity with SDG financing, climate finance, and nature‑based solutions.
• Experience with project management and stakeholder coordination.
