Project Manager – Clean Cooking Programs

About the role

AVSI is seeking a Project Manager to lead the implementation of clean cooking initiatives across Africa. The role involves overseeing project activities, budgets, and timelines while ensuring alignment with donor requirements and organizational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all project activities, ensuring compliance with approved proposals, budgets, and schedules in collaboration with the Clean Cooking Thematic Lead.
• Achieve project targets and key performance indicators, and contribute to staff recruitment, orientation, and training.
• Coordinate and develop project staff, fostering capacity, autonomy, and professional growth.
• Apply AVSI logistics, safety, security, communication, and administrative procedures, liaising with Operations Manager and Country Representative.
• Promote synergies with other national and international projects, monitor and evaluate progress, and produce narrative and financial reports for donors.
• Maintain proactive relationships with donors, partners, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Represent AVSI in sectoral coordination structures, clusters, and working groups at provincial and national levels.
• Support donor programming, proposal development, and identification of new funding opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environment, Energy, Rural Development, Economics, Management, Entrepreneurship, Development Studies or related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in a development or humanitarian context.
• Minimum 1 year of experience managing clean cooking projects in Africa.
• Proficiency in English (written and oral) at C1 level.
