Country Director – Sierra Leone

About the role

The Country Director leads GOAL’s programme in Sierra Leone, taking overall responsibility for planning, managing and developing the organisation’s work in the country. The role sets strategic direction, ensures organisational coherence and represents GOAL to donors, government and partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the country strategy, including humanitarian response capacity and funding mobilisation.
• Oversee all in‑country activities, personnel and the Country Management Group, ensuring safety and security of staff.
• Lead country‑level advocacy and maintain relationships with government officials and donors.
• Allocate resources efficiently, implement cost‑control mechanisms and ensure quality of programme delivery.
• Maintain and strengthen country structures, systems and learning programmes for staff development.

Required profile

• Third‑level qualification in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Management or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience at Country Director level in complex humanitarian and development settings.
• Proven success in securing large, multi‑annual grants and strong proposal/report writing ability.
• Extensive people‑management experience and ability to liaise with government officials and diverse donors.
• Robust budgetary control and financial management skills, with commitment to NGO codes of conduct.
• Willingness to travel regularly to programme sites.
