About the role
The United Nations Resident Coordination Office in Freetown is seeking an Economist to provide evidence‑based economic analysis that supports sustainable development, economic transformation and SDG financing across Sierra Leone.
Key responsibilities
- Provide substantive economic analysis and evidence‑based advice on sustainable development, economic transformation and SDG financing, including research, data interpretation and policy options.
- Support the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team in developing and localising guidelines, tools and integrated SDG analyses, leveraging strategic foresight, digital transformation and data‑driven decision‑making.
- Engage with national governments, UN entities, international financial institutions, private sector and civil society to promote partnerships, share analytical work and identify financing opportunities for inclusive and resilient economic development.
- Contribute to the UN sustainable development programming cycle by preparing inputs for the Common Country Analysis, UNSDCF, joint programmes and reports, and monitoring macro‑economic trends and their implications for the SDGs.
- Analyse private‑sector roles, innovative SDG financing mechanisms and blended financing approaches, and provide briefing materials, talking points and background notes for senior UN officials.
