About the role
The Health Care Support Staff provides essential assistance to nurses, midwives and clinicians in the maternity and neonatal units, ensuring high‑quality, compassionate care for mothers and newborns.
Key responsibilities
- Assist nurses and midwives with patient care, including personal hygiene, mobility, feeding and comfort measures for mothers.
- Prepare and position patients for examinations, deliveries or procedures and report any changes in condition.
- Support newborn care activities such as cleaning, weighing and recording basic information under supervision.
- Provide clean linens, sterile instruments and supplies, and help transfer patients within the ward.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by following waste disposal, disinfection and infection‑prevention protocols.
- Prepare delivery rooms, post‑natal beds and neonatal spaces before and after procedures.
- Restock supplies and assist with equipment inventory management.
Required profile
- Completed secondary school education (WASSCE) or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of hygiene and infection‑prevention procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work under supervision.
- Good communication, punctuality and teamwork orientation.
Required skills
- Infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and basic patient‑care techniques.
