About the role
The Health Care Support Staff will assist nurses, midwives and clinicians in the maternity and neonatal units, ensuring mothers and newborns receive high‑quality, compassionate care. The role involves basic patient support, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and helping with clinical logistics.
Key responsibilities
- Assist nurses and midwives with personal hygiene, mobility, feeding and comfort measures for mothers and newborns.
- Prepare patients for examinations, deliveries or procedures and monitor any changes in condition.
- Support newborn care activities such as cleaning, weighing and recording basic information under supervision.
- Provide clean linens, sterile instruments and supplies in a timely manner.
- Transfer patients within the ward or to other departments as needed.
- Maintain ward cleanliness, waste disposal and infection‑prevention practices, including hand hygiene and PPE use.
- Prepare delivery rooms, post‑natal beds and neonatal spaces before and after procedures.
- Restock supplies and assist with equipment inventory management.
- Report incidents, safety concerns and any patient condition changes to the nurse or midwife in charge.
Required profile
- Completed secondary school education (WASSCE) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of hygiene and infection‑prevention procedures.
- Compassionate, respectful and able to follow instructions under supervision.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality and teamwork.
Required skills
- Basic patient care techniques.
- Infection control practices (hand hygiene, PPE usage).
- Ability to handle medical linens and waste safely.
- Simple inventory and supply management.
