Internal Control & Compliance Officer

About the role

The Internal Control & Compliance Officer will support the Internal Controls and Compliance Manager in ensuring that Save the Children Sierra Leone complies with organisational policies, donor requirements and local laws. The role involves reviewing financial and operational controls, investigating fraud or misconduct, and conducting regular compliance checks across programme and administrative activities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of governance, risk management and control processes.
• Review, document and assess financial and operational controls for programmes, field offices and administrative functions.
• Conduct spot tests and regular reviews of finance, supply chain, HR, and program transactions to ensure compliance with policies and donor agreements.
• Investigate alleged fraud, corrupt practices or misconduct, gather evidence and report findings in line with SCI standards.
• Analyse records, reports, financial statements and program implementation data to identify control gaps.
• Perform administrative duties assigned by the Internal Controls and Compliance Manager.
• Adapt working hours and duties during major humanitarian emergencies as required.

Required profile

• Ability to work closely with the Internal Controls & Compliance Manager, finance teams and a wide range of staff across the organisation.
• Strong analytical mindset for reviewing financial and operational data.
• Willingness to engage with multiple stakeholders and build a network of key contacts.
