Midwife Mentor – Clinical Mentorship & Capacity Building

About the role

The Midwife Mentor will provide on‑site clinical mentorship, supportive supervision and capacity strengthening for maternity staff across several primary health units in Kono District. The role focuses on improving maternal and newborn health services through teaching, coaching, simulation training and quality improvement activities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver regular didactic and bedside mentorship for midwives, nurses and other maternity staff.
• Strengthen competencies in prenatal, antenatal, labor and delivery, postnatal, emergency obstetric, newborn care and neonatal resuscitation.
• Conduct orientation, continuous professional development and training roster management.
• Identify learning gaps, develop mentorship plans and link training to performance reviews.
• Support quality improvement initiatives, including the Safe Childbirth Checklist and maternal health tools.
• Participate in maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response activities.
• Maintain records of mentorship activities, collect performance data and report to program managers.
• Collaborate with facility leadership, district health teams and national midwife educators.
