Senior Livelihood Specialist – Agriculture & Food Security

About the role

The Senior Livelihood Specialist will provide technical and strategic leadership for agriculture, food security and livelihood initiatives in Sierra Leone. Reporting to the Program & Sponsorship Director, you will translate strategic priorities into concrete actions, ensuring high‑quality implementation and measurable impact.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and oversee food security and livelihood (FSL) projects, including proposal writing and donor engagement.
• Identify new business opportunities and lead the preparation of funding proposals.
• Provide technical oversight to direct interventions and partner‑led activities, ensuring adherence to best practices.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on program performance, synthesising lessons learned for continuous improvement.
• Lead the design of youth‑focused livelihood programs and support scale‑up of successful interventions.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, Food Security or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in designing and managing livelihood or agricultural development programs.
• Proven experience working with donors and preparing successful grant proposals.
• Strong understanding of rural development, food security frameworks and youth livelihood strategies.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in agricultural development and food security.
• Project design, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) skills.
• Proposal development and donor relationship management.
• Ability to provide technical guidance to partners and staff.
