Chief Financial Officer – Mining (Sierra Leone)

About the role

The CFO will lead the finance function of a growing diamond mining group, based in Sierra Leone, reporting to the CEO and Board. This senior position will drive financial strategy, corporate finance and governance during a period of rapid expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute overall financial strategy, including capital raising, debt and equity financing, M&A and integration.
• Ensure robust financial controls, risk management and compliance with IFRS, tax laws and the mining fiscal regime.
• Build and maintain relationships with lenders, development finance institutions, investors, auditors and regulators.
• Oversee treasury, capital management, multi‑currency cash management, foreign‑exchange risk and debt covenant compliance.
• Direct budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, performance monitoring and cost control across all mining operations.
• Implement and optimise ERP/accounting systems such as SAP or Sage X3.
• Provide financial insights for executive and operational decision‑making.
• Lead board, lender and shareholder reporting, annual external audit and statutory financial statements.
• Develop a high‑performing finance team with a focus on Sierra Leonean talent.

Required profile

• Chartered Accountant (CA, ACA, ACCA or CPA) or equivalent; MBA or CFA preferred.
• Minimum 15 years post‑qualification experience, including at least 5 years in a CFO or senior finance executive role.
• Mining industry background, ideally diamonds or precious minerals.
• Proven track record of raising and managing debt and equity finance.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS reporting and corporate governance.
• Experience in emerging markets, preferably West Africa, with understanding of mining fiscal regimes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
