Communications Officer (Graphic Design) - Complementary Feeding Guide
wfp · Freetown
Job description
About the role
The World Food Programme (WFP) in Sierra Leone is seeking a Communications Officer (Graphic Design) to turn the National Complementary Food Recipe Booklet for children aged 6-23 months into a simple, pictorial step-by-step guide. The booklet is intended for mothers and caregivers with low literacy, so it must rely on clear illustrations rather than text-heavy instructions. The assignment lasts 60 days and is open to Sierra Leonean nationals only.
Key responsibilities
- Review existing national IEC materials on complementary foods and develop a work plan and methodology.
- Simplify the recipe booklet into pictorial formats covering ingredients, measuring equipment, quantities, preparation steps, cooking procedures and feeding recommendations.
- Include visual food safety and hygiene practices such as handwashing, clean utensils, safe water and proper food storage, and pretest the materials with low-literacy caregivers.
- Design the booklet with child-friendly, culturally relevant graphics.
- Validate the draft with the Nutrition Cluster Technical / MIYCAN team, revise it according to feedback, and produce print-ready artwork and editable files.
- Support review of printer proofs and printing of copies for distribution to Mother Support Groups, Community Health Workers and nutrition partners.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, public health communication, nutrition, health promotion or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience developing behaviour change communication (BCC/SBCC) materials.
- Demonstrated experience producing pictorial educational materials for low-literacy audiences.
- Experience working with nutrition, health or community development programmes.
- Previous work with UN agencies, government institutions, NGOs or development partners.
Required skills
- Illustration, layout and graphic design skills.
- Ability to create culturally appropriate, child-friendly visuals.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted; applications close on 12 October 2026 at 23:59 GMT.
