English & Communication Instructor
Tabempa Engineering · Freetown
Job description
About the role
WIATech is a technical institute in formation in Waterloo, Sierra Leone, operating as the academy division of Tabempa Engineering Limited. The institute trains engineers and analysts to production standards. As the owner of ENG 70 English & Communication, you will lead the universal communication foundation taken by students across all diplomas, focusing on stakeholder translation – making ideas, decisions, risks, and recommendations clear to non‑technical audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Teach reading, summarising and concise professional writing without distortion.
- Coach structured speaking, presentation skills and the discipline of answering the exact question asked.
- Prepare students for oral defence before a panel, ensuring clarity and composure.
- Run continuous practice sessions, live oral tasks and written revisions throughout the cohort.
- Assess communication quality in clear English (Krio may be used to support peer learning).
- Adopt a hands‑on teaching style rather than traditional lecturing.
Required profile
- Strong general communicator and educator capable of teaching reading, writing, speaking, presentation, feedback, tone and audience awareness.
- Ability to coach clear writing and confident speaking, and to prepare students for live oral questioning.
- Focus on intelligibility rather than accent prestige; no technical background required.
- Comfortable with a teaching‑by‑doing approach.
- Bonus: experience teaching or coaching communication in professional or technical settings, public‑speaking, debate or presentation coaching.

What we offer
