Safeguarding Officer - GADNet Safe Space, Freetown

About the role

This Safeguarding Officer role ensures the operational excellence and safety of the GADNet Safe Space in Freetown. The officer supports safeguarding protocols, risk mitigation and a secure environment for all participants, while promoting awareness, protecting against gender-based violence and child safety, and expanding service reach across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate the daily operations and coordination of the GADNet Safe Space in Freetown.
• Assist in applying safeguarding policies, procedures and standards, and proactively identify and address safeguarding risks in programmes and activities.
• Deliver safeguarding orientation sessions and awareness workshops for staff, volunteers, beneficiaries and community members.
• Manage confidential referrals by guiding people through established support pathways, and keep referral directories and provider profiles current.
• Maintain safeguarding and Safe Space documentation accurately, securely and confidentially.
• Oversee complaint and feedback mechanisms, and monitor, document and report on safeguarding initiative progress and outcomes.
• Help locate districts and communities needing Safe Space interventions, map and engage partners and service providers beyond Freetown, and strengthen referral networks.
• Coordinate with government bodies, NGOs, health facilities and community groups, and document lessons learned and best practices.
• Carry out additional safeguarding and Safe Space duties as directed by the supervisor.
