Education and Community Coordinator

About the role

The Education and Community Coordinator will lead and strengthen Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary’s education and community programmes. Reporting to the Conservation Manager, the role combines curriculum development, field outreach, and support for research and monitoring activities across Sierra Leone.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver engaging environmental education content for schools, Roots & Shoots clubs, nature clubs and community groups.
• Create age‑appropriate educational activities and training resources.
• Organise and support school visits, community workshops, awareness sessions and nature‑club activities.
• Build and maintain relationships with local communities, government officials, Paramount Chiefs and other stakeholders.
• Develop and implement Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) systems for education and community initiatives.
• Support community‑led conservation projects such as beekeeping, tree nurseries, agroforestry and sustainable farming.
• Manage and analyse data collected from schools, communities and nature clubs.
• Assist with socio‑economic research and the SAPA assessment where required.
• Prepare activity plans, budgets, financial reports and timelines; monitor project progress.
• Coordinate field logistics, salary payments, transport, equipment and materials.
• Produce project reports and contribute to donor and partner reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading environmental education and community outreach programmes.
• Ability to develop culturally appropriate, inclusive activities that respond to local priorities.
• Experience with monitoring, evaluation and learning systems.
• Strong stakeholder‑engagement skills, including work with local authorities and community leaders.
• Capacity to manage project budgets, timelines and field logistics.
• Willingness to spend up to 10 days per month in field settings, including travel to rural communities.
