Chief of Party – Sierra Leone Malaria Activity

About the role

The Chief of Party (COP) leads the implementation of the Abt Global Central Mechanism’s malaria activity in Sierra Leone. Reporting to the U.S.-based Project Management Director, the COP serves as the primary liaison with the Ministry of Health, National Malaria Program, U.S. Embassy and other key stakeholders, ensuring the project meets its strategic, operational and financial objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Represent Abt Global and the project to the Ministry of Health, National Malaria Program, U.S. Embassy and other partners.
• Exercise full authority and accountability for activity decisions as delegated by the Project Management Director.
• Develop and execute a results‑oriented program strategy in coordination with the project team and government counterparts.
• Lead day‑to‑day execution of the firm‑fixed‑award, performance‑based program, meeting all contractual milestones, acceptance criteria and payment triggers.
• Manage competing priorities while ensuring compliance with the statement of work and contract requirements.
• Conduct regular milestone‑progress reviews with the country team to confirm performance is on track.
• Escalate potential milestone failures, scope changes, funding pressures or other contract‑impacting issues promptly.
• Control scope through disciplined management and formal authorization processes.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to represent an international organization to senior government and diplomatic stakeholders.
• Full authority and accountability for program decisions as delegated by senior management.
• Experience in leading multi‑disciplinary health programs and coordinating with ministries and donor agencies.
