CSSD Technician – Sterile Processing (3 positions)

About the role

The Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) Technician ensures that all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment used at Koidu Government Hospital are decontaminated, inspected, assembled, sterilized, and stored safely. This national position supports the operating theatre by maintaining strict infection‑control standards.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, sort, and disassemble contaminated instruments and equipment.
• Perform thorough cleaning and decontamination following universal precautions.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage.
• Assemble, wrap, label, and package instrument sets according to checklists.
• Operate and monitor autoclaves, conduct biological and chemical monitoring tests, and document sterilization cycles.
• Aseptically store sterile supplies and deliver them to operating rooms.
• Manage inventory, monitor expiration dates, and report shortages.
• Maintain compliance with Sierra Leone National IPC Guidelines, WHO standards, and AORN practices.
• Participate in quality‑assurance activities and train new technicians.

Required profile

• SECHN (preferred) or WASSCE pass in English and Mathematics.
• Completed sterile processing training.
• Previous experience in a CSSD environment (preferred).
• Knowledge of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization techniques.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and lift heavy loads.
