About the role
The Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to ensure safe, efficient and ethical delivery of pharmaceutical services at Kono District Hospital in Freetown. The role involves dispensing medications, managing inventory, supporting ward staff and complying with hospital protocols for both inpatient and outpatient care.
Key responsibilities
- Dispense medications accurately under pharmacist supervision, ensure proper labeling, packaging, documentation and reinforce patient counseling.
- Maintain accurate stock records, conduct routine inventory checks, manage expiries, report discrepancies and coordinate deliveries with the warehouse and distribution centre.
- Control and account for all medicines, including narcotics and psychotropics, documenting requisitions, returns and any protocol deviations.
- Collaborate with nursing and medical teams to guarantee correct medication availability, administration and documentation in wards.
- Promote rational use of medicines, adhere to infection‑prevention standards, keep the pharmacy environment clean and safe, and ensure emergency medications are always available.
- Prepare and submit monthly consumption and reporting documents, support internal and external audits, mentor junior technicians and perform other duties as assigned by the pharmacist.
Required profile
- Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
- Minimum two years of experience in a hospital setting; experience with psychiatric medications is an advantage.
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities with the capacity to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary setting.
- High ethical standards and confidentiality in handling patient and medication data.
- Professional proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
