Finance Officer (Sierra Leone)

About the role

We are seeking a Finance Officer to manage the financial operations of Rainforest Builder’s restoration projects in Sierra Leone. The role supports community‑based reforestation, carbon‑sequestration and donor‑funded programmes by ensuring accurate accounting, compliance and timely reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and present financial statements, management accounts and donor reports.
• Process payroll, statutory deductions (NASSIT, PAYE) and liaise with tax authorities.
• Monitor budgets, perform variance analysis and report expenditures against approved lines.
• Conduct field finance visits to verify transactions and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accounting records in Xero and produce financial models in Excel.
• Support the preparation of audit documentation and ensure compliance with Sierra Leone tax laws and NASSIT regulations.
• Train non‑finance staff on financial procedures and reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
• Minimum three years of finance experience, preferably in an agricultural, environmental or NGO setting.
• Knowledge of Sierra Leone tax legislation and statutory compliance.
• High level of integrity, accuracy and analytical ability.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to remote project sites.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and financial modelling.
• Experience using Power BI for reporting (optional but advantageous).
