Internal Control & Compliance Officer

About the role

The Internal Control & Compliance Officer will work with the Internal Controls and Compliance Manager to ensure that Save the Children Sierra Leone complies with organisational policies, donor requirements and local legislation. The role involves reviewing financial and operational processes, investigating irregularities, and supporting governance and risk‑management activities across the country office and field sites.

Key responsibilities

• Support regular reviews of financial, supply‑chain, HR, administrative and programme transactions to verify compliance with Save the Children policies, grant agreements and donor regulations.
• Assist in investigating fraud, corruption or misconduct allegations, documenting evidence and reporting findings in line with SCI standards.
• Conduct spot‑tests and compliance checks on donor requirements and internal controls.
• Analyse records, reports, financial statements and programme data to assess the effectiveness of control mechanisms.
• Provide administrative support to the Internal Controls and Compliance Manager and contribute to governance, risk‑management and control assessments.
• Adapt working hours and duties during major humanitarian emergencies as needed.

Required profile

• Experience in internal control, compliance, audit or finance within a humanitarian or development context.
• Familiarity with donor regulations, grant management and Save the Children policies.
• Strong analytical abilities to review transactions, financial statements and programme data.
• Ability to work collaboratively with finance, programme and field staff and build a network of key contacts.
• Willingness to work onsite in Freetown and travel to field offices when required.
