About the role
The Health Care Support Staff provides essential assistance to nurses, midwives and clinicians in the maternity and neonatal units, ensuring high‑quality, compassionate care for mothers and newborns. This onsite role focuses on basic patient support, infection control, and smooth ward operations.
Key responsibilities
- Assist nurses and midwives with patient care, including personal hygiene, mobility, feeding and comfort measures for mothers and newborns.
- Prepare and position patients for examinations, deliveries or procedures, and report any changes in condition promptly.
- Support newborn care activities such as cleaning, weighing and recording basic information under supervision.
- Provide clean linens, sterile instruments and supplies in a timely manner.
- Transfer patients within the ward or to other departments as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by following waste disposal and infection‑prevention protocols.
- Prepare delivery rooms, post‑natal beds and neonatal spaces before and after procedures.
- Assist with inventory management and restocking of supplies.
Required profile
- Completed Secondary School Education (WASSCE) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of hygiene and infection‑prevention procedures.
- Compassionate, patient and respectful attitude toward mothers and newborns.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work under supervision.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality and teamwork.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required.
