Obstetrics & Gynecology Consultant – Maternal Center of Excellence

About the role

Partners in Health is seeking an experienced Obstetrics and Gynecology physician to join the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) at Koidu Government Hospital in Kono District, Sierra Leone. The consultant will deliver high‑quality reproductive and maternal health services while mentoring local health staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient obstetric and gynecologic care, including high‑risk prenatal clinics.
• Perform normal vaginal deliveries, Cesarean sections, vacuum‑ and forceps‑assisted deliveries, and a range of gynecologic surgeries (myomectomy, hysterectomy, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, cystectomy).
• Supervise and mentor resident doctors, medical officers, nurses, midwives, and Community Health Officers.
• Develop and implement clinical protocols, SGBV guidelines, and cervical cancer screening programs.
• Lead multidisciplinary team rounds, morbidity‑mortality reviews, and clinical teaching sessions.
• Participate in community outreach for RMNCAH activities, including high‑risk pregnancy screening.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or equivalent OB/GYN physician with substantial clinical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high standards of care in low‑resource settings.
• Willingness to collaborate with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health on program development and medical education.
• Commitment to a minimum 12‑month assignment.
