Anesthesia & Critical Care Consultant – Koidu Government Hospital

About the role

The Anesthesia and Critical Care Consultant will lead the delivery of safe, high‑quality anesthesia and intensive care services at Koidu Government Hospital and the Maternal Center of Excellence. This senior clinician will supervise staff, mentor trainees, and ensure compliance with international and local peri‑operative standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive anesthesia, peri‑operative, and critical care services for all patients.
• Supervise and mentor nurse anesthetists, critical‑care nurses, residents and medical students.
• Oversee unit operations, including equipment maintenance, medication availability, and safety protocols.
• Develop and implement evidence‑based clinical guidelines and standard operating procedures.
• Lead morbidity and mortality reviews, simulation trainings, and emergency preparedness drills.
• Collaborate with surgical, obstetric, internal medicine, paediatric and emergency teams for multidisciplinary care.
• Participate in data collection, research and quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD or MBChB) with specialization in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.
• Valid medical license to practice.
• Minimum 5 years post‑specialization experience, preferably in resource‑limited settings.
• Proven leadership and supervisory experience in a hospital‑based anesthesia/critical‑care unit.
• Strong organizational, mentoring and communication skills.
• Willingness to work full‑time in Koidu, Kono District.
